Beauty finishing that keeps the character
A close-up carries more than detail. Expression, the direction of light and the movement of a face all contribute to the performance. Beauty finishing begins with deciding which distractions to remove and which characteristics make the image belong to that person.
A useful reference shows the intended level of finish. Discuss skin texture, temporary blemishes, reflections and clothing separately. Treating them as distinct choices is more precise than asking for a generally cleaner image.
Review the work in motion. A correction that looks convincing on one frame can feel different through a turn, a blink or a change in lighting. The shot needs to remain coherent across the whole performance and alongside the shots around it.
Colour and finishing also affect one another. A contrast change can make a small detail more visible, while a different skin tone can change the impression of texture. Agree on the review conditions and return to the complete shot before calling the image finished.
